Is Ashton Kutcher Jewish?

Ashton Kutcher is not Jewish. Many people hold the belief that Ashton Kutcher is a Jew due to his status as a student of Kabbalah. His marriage to fellow Kabbalah follower Demi Moore was presided over by Yehuda Berg of the Kabbalah Centre. The couple is currently separated.

Kutcher was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is the son of Diane Finnegan Larry Kutcher, a factory worker. His father is of Bohemian (Czech) descent and his mother is of Irish, German, and Bohemian ancestry.

Recently, Kutcher has come under fire for his brownface performance for an advertisement for Popchips.

  2. If he identifies himself sincerely as Jewish even if there are some technicalities at hand, I would be careful to brand him as not Jewish. While he will certainly have issues within most Orthodox communities, he will be likely accepted into non-Orthodox and maybe a few Orthodox ones (depends on the Rabbi). I would accept him into my Orthodox community if he had good intentions and there seemed to be a path toward obviating the technicalities down the road. From an interview given by Natalie Portman (clearly Jewish), he seems to have a better grasp of Jewish concepts than like more than 50% of worldwide Jewry. While just outright knowledge is not enough, it shows there is an interest if he has taken that much time out of his life to learn. I can't say I am a big fan of the Kabbalah centre, as a Maimonidean-thinking Jew, but it's certainly a step away from his roots.
